Every cup counts.

And not just because of what's in it.

Datirs turns an agricultural byproduct – date seeds – into a healthy, delicious and sustainable drink that offers a real alternative to coffee. But our impact goes way beyond the cup.

We aim to inspire ethical consumer choices by offering products that delight the senses and make a positive impact in the world.

It's important to us that everyone in our value chain should benefit from what we do – suppliers, our team, consumers and distributors. We’re not just about creating great products; we’re about supporting communities and building resilience in these fast-changing times.

The communities behind Datirs

We see ourselves as serving two communities.

At the end of the chain are our customers who want a delicious, healthy drink to enjoy in cafés and restaurants (or at home) from Barcelona to Cairo.

At the beginning of the chain are our date-growing partners in Egypt, who live in arid desert regions with limited economic opportunities and need new income streams to sustain their communities.

Our vision is to be the catalyst that forges an enduring bond between these two worlds, promoting two-way cultural enrichment while safeguarding the ecosystems that sustain us.

We support Egyptian growers

Mostafa has forged links with several tribal communities in his native Egypt, who supply us with the raw materials to make our products. Datirs generates fair employment, supports local projects and respects their culture.

We'll be adding more date farmers to our roster of suppliers as our needs grow.

Farmers in Bahariya

In Bahariya oasis, where desert meets rugged mountains, dates have sustained the resilient locals for centuries. Mostafa met Hamada, a Bedouin from the Bani Wasil tribe, who spoke of their need for solar energy and reliable electricity.

At the annual date festival, Mostafa noticed that when the dates were sold, their seeds were discarded. He saw the opportunity to upcycle them, and now Datirs buys seeds from Bahariya, creating new economic opportunities for Hamada’s tribe.

Farmers in Siwa

In the remote Siwa oasis, Mostafa got to know Abdullah, a local man working in tourism and selling wild medicinal herbs. Abdullah shared his community's concerns about water scarcity due to climate change, which threatens their future. He stressed the need for better irrigation, sustainable tourism, and improved infrastructure like education and electricity.

Dates are central to Siwa’s economy, and with Mostafa’s experience in low-impact projects, they set up a scheme for local growers to send their date seeds for roasting at Datirs' production facilities, providing a new income stream for the community.

Sustainability, Zero Waste & Circularity

Datirs is zero-waste and contributes to the circular economy by upcycling an agricultural byproduct, creating more value for growers from a part of the date that was once discarded. Our ingredients are responsibly sourced and our packaging is made from sustainable materials and recyclable.

Few other crops could thrive in these arid regions, and the natural cultivation process uses no polluting agrochemicals. Traditional farming techniques promote soil health and preserve local ecosystems.

Designed for your wellbeing

We position ourselves to some degree as a sustainable alternative to the coffee industry. Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages globally. Between us all on this Earth, we consume about 2 billion cups of coffee every day.

That's a lot of coffee. And global heating means we're running out of space to grow it.

Present-day coffee cultivation comes with loads of negatives – deforestation, soil erosion, water scarcity and contamination, biodiversity loss, and exploitative working conditions, to name but a few.

Datirs is made with more climate-resilient ingredients

As climate change reduces coffee yields and drives up prices, most of us must turn to alternatives. Date palms, thriving where little else can, offer an environmentally sustainable and less expensive long-term option. Maximizing the use of dates, including every part, is essential as climate challenges make harvests smaller and more complex.

Datirs is a healthier option

Coffee and caffeine don’t suit everyone. There are countless reasons people might want to cut back – anxiety, insomnia, digestive or fertility issues; because of pregnancy, breastfeeding, or menopause symptoms – which is why gentler, caffeine‑free alternatives are increasingly in demand.
