Communities

Harvesting and manufacturing our product sustainably isn't just a practice; it's a commitment to preserve our environment and support local communities.
Datirs was created as a socially engaged enterprise that brings a sustainable alternative drink to contemporary café culture, while generating value for date growers and safeguarding the environment.
Through meticulous sourcing, artisanal roasting, and a dedication to quality, we aspire to create a profound connection between discerning palates and the rich cultural heritage of our date-cultivating suppliers.
At Datirs, we see ourselves as serving two communities
to enjoy in café environments (or at home) from Barcelona to Cairo.
At the beginning of the chain are our date-growing partners in Egypt, who live in arid desert regions with
limited economic opportunities and need new income streams to sustain their communities.
Our vision is to be the catalyst that forges an enduring bond between these two worlds, promoting two-way
cultural enrichment while safeguarding the ecosystems that sustain us.

Our director Mostafa has forged links with several tribal communities in his native Egypt, who
supply us with the raw materials to make our products.
We’ll be adding more Egyptian date farmers to the roster of suppliers we buy from, as our
business expands and our needs grow.

With Mostafa’s experience in low-impact projects, they explored new economic opportunities.
Dates, central to Siwa’s economy, inspired the idea to use date seeds.
Now, Datirs buys these seeds to create a roasted brew, providing a new income stream for the community.
Hamada Bahariya Community
Bahariya Community
At the annual date festival, Mostafa noticed that while the dates were sold, the seeds were discarded. He saw an opportunity to repurpose them, reducing waste and boosting the local economy.
Now, Datirs sources date seeds from Bahariya, creating new economic opportunities for Hamada’s tribe.

Mostafa’s vision for Datirs was inspired by his deep connection with his native land and its most hardy people.
By sourcing dateseeds from Siwa and Bahareya, Datirs creates new value from the part of an agricultural commodity that was once discarded.
We’re not just about creating delicious products; we’re about supporting desert communities, helping them preserve their traditions while finding new ways to thrive that are grounded in their unique landscapes and shaped by their resilient spirits.
Dateseeds can unlock economic opportunities and empower date farmers to prosper in harmony with their rich cultural heritage..
